General Physical Therapy Questions
-
Physical therapy (PT) is a healthcare specialty focused on improving movement, reducing pain, and restoring function after injury, illness, or surgery. Physical therapists use techniques such as targeted exercises, manual therapy, stretching, and modalities like heat, cold, or electrical stimulation to enhance mobility and strength. PT is commonly used to treat musculoskeletal injuries, post-surgical recovery, neurological conditions, and chronic pain. It helps patients regain independence, prevent future injuries, and improve overall physical well-being.
-
Physical therapy (PT) treats a wide range of conditions affecting movement, strength, and function. Common conditions treated by physical therapists include:
Musculoskeletal Injuries – Sprains, strains, fractures, and tendonitis.
Post-Surgical Recovery – Rehabilitation after joint replacements, spinal surgery, or orthopedic procedures.
Chronic Pain Conditions – Arthritis, fibromyalgia, and lower back pain.
Neurological Disorders – Stroke recovery, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis.
Sports Injuries – ACL tears, rotator cuff injuries, and overuse injuries.
Balance and Mobility Issues – Fall prevention and gait training.
Work-Related Injuries – Repetitive strain injuries and ergonomic concerns.

At ASR Sports Medicine you will always be treated by a doctor. There is no swapping of patients between doctors or assistants. In addition, our board-certified Doctors have studied and are credentialed in an array of manual therapy interventions and treatment techniques that are not taught in physical therapy or chiropractor school. This advanced training allows us to get the results that others simply can’t.
-
Most definitely! Many of our patients participate in sport-specific training, recovery, and injury prevention programs to help bulletproof their bodies and reduce risk of future injury. Doctors of Physical Therapy are the authority on movement and the musculoskeletal system, and as such, treatment of injuries is just one facet of what we can do as healthcare practitioners.
-
Physical therapy is generally safe for most people, but certain individuals may need medical clearance before beginning treatment. PT may not be appropriate for those with:
Severe or unstable medical conditions, such as uncontrolled heart disease or respiratory issues.
Acute injuries or infections that require immediate medical attention before rehabilitation.
Severe osteoporosis where certain exercises could increase the risk of fractures.
Recent surgeries with restrictions that limit movement until healing progresses.
Uncontrolled neurological conditions that may require specialized care.
A licensed physical therapist will evaluate your condition and medical history to determine if physical therapy is safe and beneficial for you. If necessary, they may collaborate with your doctor to ensure the best course of treatment.
General Chiropractic Questions
-
Chiropractic care at ASR Sports Medicine is a natural, hands-on approach to healthcare that focuses on diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal conditions, particularly those related to the spine. Chiropractors use spinal adjustments and other manual techniques to improve alignment, relieve pain, and support the body's natural ability to heal. This drug-free, non-invasive treatment can help with conditions such as back pain, neck pain, headaches, and joint issues, promoting overall wellness and mobility.
-
Chiropractors complete a Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) program at an accredited chiropractic college. This rigorous program typically takes four years and includes coursework in anatomy, physiology, neurology, radiology, and hands-on clinical training. Chiropractors must also pass national board exams and obtain a state license to practice. While they are not medical doctors (M.D.s), chiropractors are highly trained healthcare professionals specializing in spinal health and musculoskeletal conditions.
-
Yes, chiropractic care is generally considered safe when performed by a licensed and trained chiropractor. It is a non-invasive, drug-free approach to treating musculoskeletal issues, including back pain, neck pain, and joint discomfort. Serious complications are rare, but some patients may experience mild soreness or stiffness after an adjustment, similar to post-exercise discomfort. Chiropractors assess each patient’s health history to ensure treatments are appropriate and tailored to individual needs. If you have specific health concerns, consult with a chiropractor to determine the safest approach for your care.
-
Chiropractic care primarily treats conditions related to the spine, muscles, joints, and nervous system. Common conditions chiropractors address include:
Back Pain – Lower, mid, and upper back pain due to misalignment, muscle strain, or injury.
Neck Pain – Stiffness, whiplash, and tension-related discomfort.
Headaches & Migraines – Often caused by spinal misalignment, tension, or nerve irritation.
Sciatica – Pain radiating from the lower back down the legs due to nerve compression.
Joint Pain – Shoulder, knee, hip, and other joint issues related to misalignment or overuse.
Postural Problems – Poor posture contributing to chronic pain and mobility issues.
Sports & Work Injuries – Strains, sprains, and repetitive stress injuries.
Chiropractic care focuses on relieving pain, improving mobility, and supporting overall wellness through spinal adjustments, soft tissue therapy, and lifestyle recommendations.
-
No, chiropractic care at ASR Sports Medicine is not just for pain relief. While many people seek chiropractic treatment for back, neck, and joint pain, it also focuses on improving overall health and wellness. Chiropractors work to enhance spinal alignment, nervous system function, and mobility, which can help with posture, flexibility, and even stress management. Regular chiropractic care may also support better sleep, increased energy levels, and improved athletic performance. By promoting proper body function, chiropractic care contributes to long-term well-being, not just symptom relief.
-
Chiropractic adjustments are generally not painful. Most patients feel relief or a sense of release during the adjustment. Some may experience mild discomfort or a popping sound as joints are realigned, but this is normal and not typically painful. In some cases, slight soreness—similar to post-workout stiffness—may occur after treatment, but it usually resolves within a day or two. Chiropractors use gentle techniques tailored to each patient’s comfort level to ensure a safe and effective experience.
-
While chiropractic care is safe for most people, certain individuals should consult a healthcare provider before seeking treatment. Chiropractic adjustments may not be recommended for those with:
Severe osteoporosis or brittle bones, which could increase the risk of fractures.
Spinal instability or conditions like fractures, tumors, or severe arthritis.
Certain neurological disorders, such as those causing progressive nerve damage.
Recent surgery or healing from spinal fusion or implants that could be affected by adjustments.
Severe herniated discs or conditions requiring surgical intervention.
A qualified chiropractor will assess your medical history and condition to determine if chiropractic care is appropriate for you. If necessary, they may recommend alternative treatments or work alongside other healthcare professionals for your safety.

It covers a thorough history of your injury, testing of all involved structures to determine the true cause of the issue, and formation of a comprehensive and specific plan of care.
