Physical Therapist - Orthopedic and Sports Performance Specialist

Dr. Matthew McGowan is a dedicated physical therapist with a comprehensive educational background and multiple certifications in related fields. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from SUNY Cortland, where he played for the men’s basketball team and served as team captain during his senior year. He went on to complete a Master’s in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology from the University of Florida, followed by his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Nova Southeastern University.

In addition to his role as a physical therapist, Matthew is a certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) and Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). This diverse skill set allows him to take a holistic approach to patient care, blending expertise in injury prevention, rehabilitation, and performance optimization. Specializing in orthopedic manual therapy, he utilizes hands-on techniques such as joint and soft tissue mobilization, manipulation, and muscle energy techniques to reduce pain, restore movement, and address musculoskeletal dysfunctions effectively. By combining manual therapy with functional performance testing, he optimizes recovery outcomes, ensuring patients achieve confident, safe returns to sport and daily function.

Matthew is passionate about helping patients reach their full potential and promoting overall well-being. He develops personalized treatment plans that align with each individual’s goals, drawing from his broad background in physical therapy, athletic training, and strength and conditioning.

Outside the clinic, Matthew leads an active lifestyle that includes strength training, golfing, and mountain biking. He also enjoys watching sports, attending concerts, cooking, and spending quality time with friends and family.
